This week in the Guildford Table Tennis League  the later rounds of the Cup Competitions were played. In the Premier event, the Percy Lawes,  Godalming A, going for the League and cup double, reached the final  in a fine match with  Burymead A by a rather  generous 5-2 score. The match hinged on a thrilling five setter between Guildford Men’s Singles Champion Federico Viterbo and  Burymead’s Phil Snelson.

In the league College A improved their Premier survival prospects with a 6-4 result over bottom club Cody A. Phil Harrison starred with three and Andy Clegg was only denied his maximum by Kin Chan in a wonderfully close five set clash.

The Fourth Division turned up a surprising result when table toppers Cody B improved their position with a 9-1 result over Bramley E-Top of the individual averages David Barraclough managed only one in this match. Godalming N got six valuable points against Woking D the 30 odd points separating them not deterring Brian Mitchell with three singles, backed up by Rob Chatwin and Aubrey Collins.

Division Three, and Aftermath E- with  another fine performance by Alan Webb- at the top, were held to a 6-4 result against middle of the table Godalming J for whom Fred Florance got a pair. In fact Ben Tahouri  was unlucky  to lose to Webb at 13 in the fifth.

Division One, and Merrow E turned the screw on Ash, who were without a match, by virtue of a 9-1 thrashing of College C who are now firmly rooted at the bottom.
