This week in the Guildford Table Tennis League we report on the successes of various coaching schemes embarked on by the Association. Long term  stalwart, Trevor Free, has recently qualified as a Table Tennis England Coach. Most significantly he has also been successfully nominated for a London Regional Award for his work in organising a coaching scheme at the Merrow Club. As well as the major scheme run by Tony Laws and son Adam at Christ’s College, the pupils  of the school are regularly coached by the Laws family including Shula. Emmanuel Secretary Roger Williams is a regular assistant in the enterprise, showing the Associations total commitment to youth development in the sport.

Match of the week was a cracker between Merrow F and Godalming G in the Chris Lewis KO Cup. James Selby got Merrow off to a good  start with a fine win over Mick Stanners in five sets- Chris King levelled and Paul Fenton put the Godalming side ahead. Tim Ngyou  brought parity to the proceedings and Selby took out Fenton in a very tight match -advantage Merrow once again, then the critical encounter, with King defeating  Pierre Tan in an exciting five setter -three all! Fenton next beat Ngyou.  Stanners then  clinched victory for Godalming in an amazing five setter against Tan.

Members of the Association are reminded  to get their entries  for the Closed Tournament, to be held  on the weekend 3rd and  4th February at Christ College,  in good time- by the 28th January.
